THE DAN KING BAND
website: http://danielscottking.com/home.html
Kicking off Salem Jazz and Soul Festival weekend at the Salem Willows Friday, August 15, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Dan King, David Brown, Dave Mattacks and Wolf Ginandes have been quietly motoring around the North Shore scene for
the last four years. Through lots of weeknight acoustic gigs, recording time, and dinner conversation they have slowly
crafted a solid yet sensitive tone in support of their original material while always rehashing choice nuggets from the past
for inspection and revitalization. Nothing quirky or gimmicky here, just a sometimes calm sometimes thundering
timelessness that reflects the rocky and lush coastline, stately brick housing, and historic streets and sidewalks that
make the north shore what it is.

Ken Clark Organ Trio follows their critically acclaimed Severn debut "Eternal Funk" with "Mutual Respect." The New
England based trio offers 11 tracks spotlighting the Hammond B-3, with a foundation of styles ranging from traditional
jazz to funk and soul. Clever melodies, and superb musicianship are this trio's strong points. "Mutual Respect" was
recorded live in the studio with very few overdubs. "Clark controls the B3 like a master: hip bass lines, sizzling chordal
washes, feel-good riffs, funky blues lines and syncopated accents figure in the mix."

MARTY ROWEN AND LAST CALL FOR BLUES
website: Marty Rowen and Last Call for Blues
Performing on Sunday, August 17 at the Salem Willows
"... pianist, vocalist, and harmonica player Marty Rowen has ressurected (Last Call for Blues). The bottom of Benny
Benson, on drums, Mike Miksis, on bass, and Bruce Bartlett completes the quartet. This is where blues meets jazz.
Benson's precise and even touch on the drum set creates a solid foundation for the other instruments... In Miksis' hands,
the bass is more than a rhythm instrument. His playing is steady and up-tempo in accompaniment, and melodic when
solo... Bartlett...rises to every solo with rapid and complex jazz lines... But definitely Marty Rowen's band, and he is
musically a match for Bartlett's jazz virtuosity. " - Will Pirone, Salem Sounds
OTHER HAPPENINGS... We'll have vendors selling arts and crafts, a Kid's Tent where they can play with instruments and
parents can find information about local music instructors, and we're also delighted to have the Boston Hoop Troop on
hand, demo-ing and teaching the lost art of hula hoops! Read a recent Boston Globe article about the Boston Hoop
Troop.
