www.boneramamusic.com
When Bonerama struts onstage with its
three-trombone frontline, you can guess it’s
not quite like any jazz or rock ’n’ roll band
you’ve seen. When they tear into some
vintage New Orleans funk, there’s no
questioning from which city these guys hail.
And when those ‘bones start ripping into
Hendrix and Led Zeppelin licks, all stylistic
bets are off. Even in a city that doesn’t play
by the rules, New Orleans’ Bonerama is
something different. They’re not a traditional
brass band, but they’ve got brass to spare—
even with no trumpets or saxes in sight.
They can evoke traditional jazz, vintage funk,
and classic rock in the same set; maybe
even the same song. Formed by members
of Harry Connick Jr.’s big band looking to
shake things up in the clubs of New Orleans
when they were not touring, Bonerama has
evolved into an internationally recognized
force playing coast to coast and overseas
as well as in the same local clubs where
they began. They are a fixture at the annual
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, have
been repeatedly recognized by Rolling
Stone, and, in addition to their own catalog
of four CDs, Bonerama recently collaborated
on CDs with REM and OK GO. Bonerama
were also featured in the second season
opener for HBO’s award-winning series,
“Treme”.
CHARLES NEVILLE
& HARVEY DIAMOND QUARTET
www.charlesnevillesite.com
Grammy award winning saxophone master,
Charles Neville, the second oldest brother
in the legendary Neville Brothers band, has
the most diverse musical background of the
lot. His musical experiences have included
rhythm & blues, funk, jazz, be-bop, popular
and even American Indian music. He cites
as influences Louis Jordan, Charlie Parker,
John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Professor
Longhair, and he is also the only brother
that has lived away from New Orleans for
long periods of time, making places like
New York, Memphis and Oregon his home.
Charles began his career on the road at a
young age, playing with legends such as
Little Walter, Jimmy Reed, Big Maybelle,
James Brown, B.B. King, Bobby Bland and
Ray Charles. Not ignoring his hometown,
Charles also played sax behind Allen
Toussaint, James Booker, Ernie K-Doe and
Huey "Piano" Smith – all before joining
together with Aaron, Art and Cyril to form the
now legendary Neville Brothers in the late
1970’s. Most recently, Charles has settled
into the countryside of Western
Massachusetts, and when not out with the
Neville Brothers, he has been exploring his
love of jazz again. Joining Charles in his
Quartet is an unsung hero of the Boston jazz
scene, pianist, Harvey Diamond. One of the
most accomplished players in the Boston
area, Harvey's career in jazz spans more
than 50 years, from his first gigs as a
teenager in hometown San Francisco, to
performing across the U.S. and Europe,
accompanying celebrated jazz singer Sheila
Jordan and trumpeter Art Farmer among
others. A student of the late great Lennie
Tristano, Harvey is a master piano instructor
at the Vermont Jazz Center and Winchester
Community School of Music. Fleshing out
the band, are ace players Rick Maida on
bass and Dave Fox on drums.

year at Berklee College of Music, she played
as part of the Salem Jazz & Soul Festival’s
Derby Square Summer Series. She easily
won the crowd and us over and we’re
pleased to have her back to play the main
festival. Nicky and her band have toured all
over the U.S. in support of her amazing CD,
Good People, including stints at the famed
Whiskey A Go-Go, and a fundraiser for Penn
State Children's Hospital where they played
to a sold out crowd of 10,000 and helped
raise $7M for the cause.

Big Sam's Funky Nation has established
their presence on the forefront of the New
Orleans music scene. Trombone
powerhouse and band leader "Big Sam"
Williams, formerly of the Dirty Dozen Brass
Band, has been celebrated as "the top man
on the slide trombone in the birthplace of
jazz" by the San Francisco Chronicle and the
band has been touted for consistently
"bringing a straight raw party" by Jambase.
2010 was a busy year for The Nation, with
two European tours (France and Greece), a
recurring role in the new HBO original
series "Treme", and a busy US touring
schedule including festivals such as the
New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival,
Bonnaroo Arts & Music Festival, South by
Southwest, Doheney Blues Festival and
Gathering of the Vibes. In 2011, BSFN hasn’
t slowed down. The momentum BSFN has
recently accumulated will only continue to
grow off of the successful release of their
fourth and most prolific album to date, King
Of The Party. Be on the lookout for BSFN's
masterful blend of a rock, with an improv-
style associated with jazz and a horn-heavy
front section that's the hallmark of funk. The
energy level is always high voltage when
BSFN takes the stage.
CLUB D’ELF
www.clubdelf.com
Club d'Elf is the oft-praised and ever-
changing collective of musicians from
Boston and New York City who blend a
range of musical influences into songs
heavy on improvisation, but always rooted
around intricately developed rhythmic
songs. The music draws from a startlingly
wide spectrum of styles, including jazz, dub,
Moroccan rhythms, electronica, and prog-
rock, with the band exploring mash ups of
these diverse musical universes before the
term was even in use. Club d’Elf is fronted
by bassist/composer Mike Rivard, a busy
session player who has recorded &
performed with Morphine, Jon Brion, Aimee
Mann, G. Love, Medeski Martin & Wood, and
John Scofield among others and anchored
on drums by Dean Johnston (Dwight &
Nicole, Superhoney). The remaining band
is revolving, with musicians including
Brahim Frigane, Mister Rourke, Duke
Levine, Dana Colley, Paul Shulties, John
Medeski, Vincente Lebron, Alain Mallet, Jerry
Leake, and many others. While the band
has released more than a dozen live CDs,
they are ecstatic to have released a new
studio recorded double CD in Spring 2011 --
Electric Moroccoland/So Below -- and bring
some of this music to the Salem Jazz & Soul
Festival. The new CDs feature many of the
musicians above, including the amazing
percussion, vocals and playing of Brahim
Frigane and tracks recorded more than 10
years ago with the legendary Mark Sandman
of Morphine.

and raised in St. Kitts, West Indies, multi-
instrumentalist, Thaddeus Hogarth brings a
diverse set of musical influences to his
Boston-based projects. His current

that make you stop, listen and groove. The
line-up includes drum virtuoso Tony
“Thunder” Smith (Lou Reed, Jan Hammer),
