VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: EVENT STAFF | 2013 Season
Event Staff: Growing Music Festival, Salem, MA
Do you want to help bring free music to the public and support music education programs? We’d love to
hear from you. We’re the Salem Jazz & Soul Festival, a group of fun, music-loving people on the North
Shore. The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization that produces free concerts
for the public and raises money to support music education programs. We’re looking for dozens of
volunteers to help us make this year’s music festival a reality!
This year’s schedule includes events on April 27, May 11, June 8, July 13 and August 10.
Our biggest needs are for volunteers who can help with events during our main event, the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival
Saturday and Sunday August 17-18 (as well as Friday the 16th and Monday the 19th for pick up and drop off)
Events taking place during the 5/11-8/10 dates are in 5 hour shifts (3-8pm including set-up/Breakdown).
Events on 8/17 and 8/18 are available in either 4 or 8 hour shifts (with breaks).
Event Staff Job Descriptions:
Set Up/Breakdown
Building sets, assembling tents, moving furniture and equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to get around (Typically walking or running).
Availability early morning/late evening 8/17 and/or 8/18 as well as pick up and drop off 8/16 and 8/19.
Vendor Coordination
Work with our artist vendors to set up their booths and manage any questions or issues they have during the festival. Must have flexible, positive
attitude. Ability to multitask, organizational skills.
Juke Joint Team
Set up, decorate, help manage the hippest Juke Joint in town and make our VIPS feel welcome. Creativity, ability to multitask, outgoing personality
and flexible/positive attitude.
Hospitality
Staff our VIP and Volunteer Check in area, and/or help out with the Juke Join if needed. Ability to multitask, outgoing personality, flexible positive
attitude and ability to manage VIP’s.
Merchandising
Sell festival and band merchandise. Flexible, positive attitude, ability to multitask and organizational skills required. Prefer previous volunteer
experience selling merchandise/handling cash/credit cards.
Music Education Promoter
Work the crowd and promote our mini-education series that takes place each day. Outgoing personality, flexible personality and support of the
artists running the workshops.
Kid’s Tent Staff
Staff our Kid’s play tent where children can explore musical instruments and do arts and crafts (under the supervision of their parents). Enjoy
working with kids. Outgoing, able to speak to a room full of people. Ability to multitask. Organizational skills.
Food and Beverage
Staff our beer garden, check patrons for 21+ IDs and distribute drink tickets/wristbands. Up to date, TIPS certification. Flexible, positive attitude.
Ability to Multitask. Organizational skills.
