City of Salem Jazz Appreciation Day, April 14, 2012, 2-4 p.m.

The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival and the City of Salem have come together
once again to produce the third annual City of Salem Jazz Appreciation Day
Concert, on Saturday, April 14 at the Salem Five Community Room, 210
Essex St., Salem, from 2 – 4 p.m. The concert is free and open to all music
lovers, and is generously sponsored by Salem Five.

Performing at this year’s concert are students from Salem State University
and Salem High School, who prepare for the event through a first-of-its kind
series of workshops sponsored by the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival. The
group will perform jazz standards.

Throughout the afternoon there will also be a special art contest with works
submitted by Salem grade-school students centered on the theme, “What
Music Means to Me.”  The public is invited to vote for their favorite pieces,
and the winners will be announced at the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival in
August.
